Statistical Training Course on ‘SDG 1 (No Poverty) Indicators’

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Training Course on “SDG 1 (No Poverty) Indicators” on 5-6 August 2025, with the participation of 81 experts from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of 28 OIC countries.

Mr. Mohd Yazid KASIM, Senior Director; Ms. Zuraida Che HASSAN, Senior Assistant Director, and Mr. Abul Hafidz Abdul HAMID, Assistant Director of the Price, Income and Expenditure Statistics Division at the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), provided the technical sessions of the training course.

The training covered the following topics:

  • Poverty Line Income (PLI)
  • National Multidimensional Poverty Index (NMPI)
  • Basic Expenditure of Decent Living (BEDL)
  • Mapping Malaysia’s Journey to End Poverty: Concepts and Indicators
  • Turning Numbers into Action: Malaysia’s Policies in Practice

Furthermore, Dr. Bukhari SILLAH, Senior Macroeconomics Researcher at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), delivered a presentation on the IsDB’s perspective on poverty. This collaboration is part of the activities agreed during the Eighth Session of the Annual Coordination Meeting of OIC Institutions (ACMOI) held in December 2024 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, within the framework of the UN-OIC Cooperation, Ms. Mariana PEREIRA, Technical Officer in the Social Protection Data Department of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), contributed to the course by presenting ILO’s work on social protection indicators.
